I am so sorry that you’ve had a bad experience burning a candle. From your photograph I suspect that the candle has burned down too far and the flame has heated the wax making the container too hot and therefore created the fire (the candle can also become too hot if burned for too long i.e. over 4 hours). If you keep burning any candle past the 1cm (1/2”) mark then the risk of potential fire or heat damage is significantly increased. As this is a major safety issue I clearly state ‘Stop use when 1cm of wax is left’ on my safety label which can be found on the base of every candle I make. In addition, I clearly state this on Point 5 of the credit card sized Candle Care Card which is sent or given to every customer who purchases a candle. Point 1 on the Candle Care Card also states that you should always burn a candle on a coaster irrespective of the surface on which you are burning the candle. Every candle sold should contain this warning as every candle, irrespective of manufacturer, is at risk of this situation if burned either for too long or not extinguished as appropriate.
Once again I am sorry that you’ve unfortunately had to experience this situation. As a gesture of goodwill I will happily send you a replacement candle and a solid Oak coaster if you would like to receive them. Just let me know. Kind regards, Clive.
