What type of fragrances do you like?
This is a question I ask new visitors when they are attempting to ‘Stop & Sniff’ every candle fragrance on display at the events I attend. The response usually falls into three categories… “I don’t really know”, “All of them” or “I’ll know it when I smell it”.
As I produce over 50 different fragrance blends for my scented candles, reed diffusers and other home interior fragrance collections, it is impossible to try all of them at one occasion. So here is my first blog which I hope will enable you to develop a clearer idea of what you like.
Fragrance is an incredibly personal choice and is based on any number of conscious or subconscious factors. The right fragrance can evoke powerful memories, reflect or even alter your mood and even calm your mind and body. The starting point is to identify the fragrance families that you enjoy the most considering both your mood and the season.
The 8 Fragrance Families:
Citrus – Zesty and refreshing scents that awaken your senses such as; orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, lemongrass and bergamot.
Floral – From the relaxing scent of lavender, some of our favourite floral blends include freesia, jasmine, honeysuckle, bluebells and sweet peas.
Fresh – Light, clean scents such as fresh linen, baby powder and aquatic ocean waves that evoke a sense of blissfulness.
Fruity – Fragrances that smell good enough to eat! Our most popular sweet and juicy, fruity fragrances include; cherry, watermelon, peach, pineapple, pear and pomegranate.
Green – Fresh from the herb garden, mint and basil make very popular ‘green’ blends along with eucalyptus, bamboo, bay leaf and chamomile.
Spicy – Rich and spicy fragrances with hints of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. Typically popular at Christmas but ideal for warm, cosy scents all year round.
Sweet – Make your home smell like freshly baked treats… without the hard work! Vanilla and almond based blends bring a touch of sweetness to our scented candles.
Woody – Natural, rich and often sensual – sandalwood, cedarwood and nag champa form a popular woody base for our fragrance blends.

Things to consider in choosing a fragrance:
- What room are you choosing your candle or diffuser for? A bathroom might need a completely different fragrance to a lounge or bedroom.
- What time of year is it? In autumn and winter, we like heavier fragrances like Autumn Fruits (Blackcurrant, Raspberry and Fig) whereas in the Spring and Summer we tend to choose more lighter, cleaner, citrus fragrances like Oriental Fusion (Lemongrass & Ginger)
- What mood are you trying to create? Are you looking to create a calm environment or something more energising?
So, I hope that my first blog will help you to choose the right fragrance for you, but if not… then do stop at my stand or visit my studio and sniff them all!
